Junior Solar Photovoltaic Engineering Summer Student
*Reporting to the Senior Solar PV Engineer, the Junior Solar PV Engineer will assist in system design and analysis. This position will also support the Project Management team in the successful execution of solar photovoltaic projects.*
Hours of work for this position are based on an average of 40 hours/week. Successful candidates must be available for overtime work and weekends, when required, to ensure deadline deliverables.
Preparation of engineered drawings for ground-mounted solar project construction and installation
Provide construction support to the on-site construction team to support efforts to ensure the deadlines are met within a budget and results are clearly communicated to the management, operations, and the client
Attendance of site meetings, and meetings with clients to provide technical knowledge and solutions to the challenges involved with each project
Assist with project procurement through communicate with equipment manufacturers/suppliers. Review provided specifications, installation manuals for compatibility with the design drawings.
Assist in managing other contractors to ensure compliances with the project design drawings and specifications.
Prepare request for proposal packages to be submitted to potential subcontractors for their review. Evaluate proposals for completeness and aid in identifying the preferred proponent.
Provide on-site support to the construction team by assisting with quality assurance and other tasks which may be assigned by the Senior Engineer and/or Project Manager.
Assist the business development team with new opportunities including performing equipment take-offs, layout and single line diagram preparation, and compiling the bid package.
All other assignments and special projects, as requested by Management
This position works largely in an office or site trailer environment, stationed at a desk/workstation but with the ability to move around. Periodically, the Jr. Engineer may be required to be on site locations which may therefore involve exposure to all elements of outdoor work.
● Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
● Fluency in AutoCAD
● Ability to thrive in a deadline driven environment
● Must be highly motivated, with a willingness to learn
● Willingness to work individually and/or in a team setting
● Valid Class 5 drivers’ licence with a willingness to travel extensively
● Understanding of quality management systems
● Demonstrated excellence in effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills and the necessary skills to interface with local representatives, clients, vendors, contractors and subcontractors and other project stakeholders.
