The candidate for this position will be a key contributor to interdisciplinary projects, sponsored by government agencies (e.g. the Department of Energy and US Army Corps of Engineers), to develop technologies for studying the environmental impact of renewable energy systems such as conventional hydropower, marine and hydrokinetic energy, and wind power. Examples include development of autonomous and mobile water quality monitoring systems for challenging locations, energy-harvesting devices for sensor platforms, field deployment and testing of sensing and telemetry systems or prototype devices near hydroelectric dams, wind farms, and marine and hydrokinetic systems. Job responsibility include autonomous sensor design, autonomous sensor platform design, experimental design, digital signal acquisition in laboratory and field settings, data processing and analysis, and leading journal article and report writing.
Candidates must have received a PhD in mechanical engineering, civil or environmental engineering, physical oceanography, or a related field.
The selected candidate must have demonstrated experience in advanced sensor design. The candidate must have demonstrated experience with digital signal acquisition and processing, surface water instrumentation and data acquisition, or acoustic instrument and measurements. The candidate must have experience with analysis and visualization tools (e.g., MATLAB; Tecplot; Excel). In addition, the successful candidate will be able to work well in a team setting; will exhibit a strong work ethic; will be self-motivated; and will place a high value on data quality and accuracy.. In addition, the candidate must have a strong record of peer-reviewed publications.
Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.
PhD in mechanical engineering, civil or environmental engineering, physical oceanography, or a related field. 3.5 GPA or higher is preferred
Extensive knowledge and experience in development of energy-harvesting devices (e.g., wave, thermal, mechanical, piezoelectric, etc.)
Hands-on experience of underwater autonomous vehicles, multi-robot network, or underwater acoustic
