Overview:
Based in TransAlta’s Pincher Creek Office in Alberta and reporting to the Plant Electrical Engineer – Wind and Solar Operations, the student will work closely with the wind and solar electrical engineer and electrical engineering technologists to plan and implement engineering scope for power generation electrical projects.
The role will also involve electrical engineering operational support of wind generating plant equipment such as substations, turbines, underground and overhead collector systems, SCADA systems, control systems, switchgear, protective relays and transformers, and will offer a blend of office time as well as time in the field.
TransAlta has 23 wind farms including 1,080 wind turbines with the capacity to generate 1,584 megawatts (MW) of wind power — this is the equivalent of powering more than one million homes. Qualifications;
An Electrical Engineering Internship Student (completing 3rd year academic studies in April 2021). Some industrial / generating plant experience is desirable, but not a prerequisite. The individual must be a self-starter, demonstrate initiative, and capable of working both independently and with others in a team environment.
