Wind Lidar Performance Analyst

ZX Lidars pioneered the use of lidar in the wind industry over 15 years ago. Today, the use of lidar is commonplace in the wind industry, with data from these systems widely relied upon throughout the wind-farm-development process. They are used for conducting pre-construction assessments of the wind and site characteristics all the way through to post-construction power performance testing and optimisation of an operational site.

We are seeking a suitably qualified and motivated individual to join ZX Lidars’ dedicated and highly skilled Customer Experience team. As a core member of the team, you will provide expertise and technical support, both internally and externally, to optimise lidar use and to improve and develop both ground-based and turbine-mounted applications.

Based at our Ledbury office set within the Malvern Hill, U.K, and reporting to ZX Lidars’ Wind Engineering and Verifications Manager, you will be responsible for performing rigorous analysis of data sets from lidars. You will use statistical techniques to improve our understanding of wind speed data and develop new algorithms to improve the data processing. The role will involve opportunities for travel, and for direct interaction with wind industry experts across the world. ZX Lidars are committed to developing its cutting-edge scientific solutions for the wind industry, providing opportunities for peer-reviewed publication and participation in leading conferences and technical meetings.

Specific tasks are likely to include but be limited to:

• Analysis of lidar datasets from ground-based and turbine-mounted deployments in various data formats including 10-minute averaged, 1-second and raw spectral.
• Understand and facilitate lidar system development in line with current wind industry best practice and criteria for remote sensor application, use and verification (e.g. IEC, DNV GL, IEA, etc).
• Complete daily external monitoring of lidar portfolio, supporting the wider business with communication updates and reports where necessary.
• Assist with preparation of reports to clients, and perform client training courses.
• Code development / improvement to support internal R&D and product development (e.g. signal processing, lidar data processing, algorithm development, etc.)
• Undertake and support R&D as required (e.g. development or assistance on in-house tools to facilitate and / or automate assessments of existing / new lidar products or services).
• Aid the Engineering and New Product Development teams through analysis and fault detection of existing and future products and processes.

Requirements (not all are mandatory):

• Must be enthusiastic and motivated to work individually and also possess the required skills to work as part of a team.
• Must be pro-active in efforts to engage with others.
• Must have a tenacious, “can-do” attitude to trouble-shooting and problem-solving.
• Degree in scientific area (or working towards); excellent mathematical ability
• Highly computer literate and working knowledge of MS Office. Experience with higher level scientific tools (e.g. Python, Mathematica, Matlab).
• Knowledge of wind energy technology, databases and signal processing.
• Practical in-field wind energy experience is desirable.
